Fresh ideas are not always the best ideas

How often do you eat fortune cookies?

Do you ever find value in the little pieces of paper inside your fortune cookies?

For me, it seems the wisdom offered is often intended for almost anyone.

Even so, there's still entertainment to be had.

Opening cookie after cookie with your friends and family.

Reading your fortunes and sharing a kind smile or a good laugh with each other.

Like this one from the weekend:

"Fresh ideas are not always the best ideas."

My wife and I reacted to it with a laugh.

But then we had a mutual look of concern.

We were confused.

"I'm not sure if that's right."

It's been more than 24hrs since reading this paper of delight and I'm still confused by it.

When are new ideas considered good?

And when are new ideas considered bad?

Are there situations in your work where you should seek out new ideas?

Are there situations in your work where you should avoid new ideas at all costs?

Now I have a fortune cookie paper on my desk as a reminder to explore it more.
